Knowledge transfer without national borders!
Looking over the shoulders of the best at work, sharing knowledge and pushing innovation across national borders: these are the common flags to describe the ClusterXchange program. The successfully launched pilot project will be continued - despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
SafeSmartFood - one of the COSME Cluster Excellence
projects - Partner - the Food Cluster of Business Upper Austria is in charge of ClusterXchange program.
Online meetings usually last three days. Business Upper Austria acted as virtual host on 10 December and 13/14 January. 20 participants were able to learn about sustainability in Austria through expert inputs and had the chance for networking.
A continuation is planned for 26th of March and two
further dates - whether virtually or physically depends on circumstances.
Companies and clusters from the packaging and food industry are welcome to join the meetings! The meetings enable "borderless" business opportunities, expand networks and impart knowledge about foreign markets and cultures.
Workshop dates can be found at https://www.lebensmittel-cluster.at/
SafeSmartFood will support participants throughout the process.

During the last quarter of 2020, the #food and #packaging value chains were analysed, and clusters’ strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats were identified.
This information forms the basis of a 5-year common #partnership #strategy that aims to bring cluster services to a higher level aligning them with the market needs and trends.
This strategy foresees a set of new services including the #internationalpromotion of regional initiatives, a biannual #sustainabilitysummit, sensitisation and training events, the creation of an #InnovationWorkingGroup with whom identifying needs and trends to work with, business missions, and more.
But, beyond the 5-year plan, what is going on this year?
Safe Smart Food will be organising at least three more #ClusterXchange activities between March and September, creating an #InnovationItinerary identifying the musts and trends in food and packaging innovation next month, publishing a training #ebook for clusters and launching an international newsletter in June.

The ClusterXchange program is a new pilot program to support short-term exchanges to better connect Europe’s industrial ecosystems. It aims to facilitate transnational cooperation, peer learning, networking and innovation uptake between actors of different industrial clusters.
An exchange constitutes a stay abroad performed by a visiting organisation from an eligible country at a host organisation in another eligible country. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, virtual exchanges are possible.
SafeSmartFood invites all interested cluster organizations, SMEs and Scaling-up support organizations to participate in the program.
Eligible participants interested in taking part in ClusterXchange, either as visiting or host organization, should apply via the ClusterXchange IT tool. This IT tool is used to manage all of the steps of participating in an exchange:

C2C meeting to share experiences and good practices in the generation of European innovation projects, within the framework of the SAFE SMART FOOD project.
On Tuesday, 8th of September, the European consortium, coordinated by Packaging Cluster, within the COSME European Cluster Excellence Programme, Safe Smart Food project, brought together different professional experts in project management for the transfer of knowledge between the entities involved. Experiences, opportunities, tips, and good practices for the achievement of excellence were shared during the conference.
New services programme derived from a 5-year partnership strategy
The Safe Smart Food consortium aims to provide new and better services to the members of all five clusters
During the last months, the Safe Smart Food team has been working on analysing the food and packaging value chains and their ecosystems in all the countries involved (Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, and Spain) and finding common challenges and opportunities, to elaborate a 5-year common strategy with the main objective of developing common and complementary activities at European level exploiting common synergies and resources.
In a first stage, clusters defined their own Key Success Factors (KSF) that would guide the cluster strategy and its action plan in the next years. With those KSF in mind, the consortium found common areas to build mutual interesting initiatives and run a workshop with all the participants of the project to validate the proposed collaboration lines and define common activities for each one of them. As a result, five collaboration areas were identified:
